Gastrointestinal Cancer and Liver Transplant Surgery

Dr. HRS Girn is a renowned specialist with expertise in liver cirrhosis and transplantation, liver cancer surgery and interventions, as well as surgeries involving the pancreas, gall bladder, and both large and small bowel cancers. He also specializes in pancreatic necrosectomy and gastric cancer surgery. After completing his MBBS, Dr. Girn pursued surgical training and specialization in the UK. He received his MRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2005 and subsequently undertook a two-year research period as a research registrar at Leeds Vascular Institute, leading to an MD from the University of Leeds.

With a strong foundation in General and Vascular Surgery, Dr. Girn was selected for a six-year specialist higher surgical training program in the Yorkshire deanery, UK, in 2007. His training focused on Upper GI and Colorectal surgery during the first two years, followed by extensive training in liver and renal transplantation, and hepatopancreatobiliary surgery at St. James University Hospital, Leeds. This high-volume tertiary care center provided him with comprehensive experience, culminating in an FRCS (Intercollegiate FRCS in Transplant Surgery) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2013. Dr. Girn accumulated 14 years of experience in the UK before joining DMCH Ludhiana in October 2013 as a Specialist Liver Surgeon, aiming to advance cadaveric and live donor liver transplant surgery in Punjab and North India. In February 2019, he transitioned to SPS Hospital Ludhiana as the Head of the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery and Liver Science.
